Even though its cold outside now, it is now time to start planning for your summer activities. Pack 24 cub scouts have the option to attend two excellent summer camping programs which are sponsored by the Des Plaines Valley Council.
Cub Scout Adventure Camp (a.k.a. Weekend in Illinois). Located near Rochelle, IL which is a 90 minute drive from Riverside, this is a good entry level camping experience for cub scouts. This is a one day / one night event which includes: archery, BB-gun marksmanship, swimming, hiking, crafts and skits. One of the highlights is the campfire which includes scouting songs, games, skits and s’mores. This experience is going to be offered during a range of dates any of which you are free to attend with your scout. Meals are included, and while you will sleep in your own tent, hot showers and washroom facilities are available. However, Pack 24 will aim for Saturday, July 13 to Sunday, July 14, so if you register for these dates you will probably see some familiar faces.
Camp Shin Go Beek. This camp is located near Oshkosh, WI which is about 3 and 1/2 hours away from Riverside. This event is four days and three nights and include excellent swimming and boating areas. There are many planned activities as well, including fishing, stargazing, hikes and crafts. All meals are included, and you have an option to sleep in your own tent or a standing camp tent. While there are several sessions for this camp in June, Pack 24 will plan on attending Sunday, June 23 to Wednesday, June 26.
The fee for Cub Scout Adventure Camp is $110 per scout and $80 per adult. The fee for Shin Go Beek is $175 per person (scout or adult). These rates are good until March 2, after which they increase by $25 per person. Click here to check out all the official information on the Des Plaines Valley Website. We’ll also bring some registration forms and printed materials to the Blue & Gold Banquet this weekend.
