2023 May Events & Updates

Friendship knot

ATTENTION PARENTS AND LEADERS: All reimbursement requests for the 2022-2023 program year are due at the Advancement Ceremony on Tuesday, May 16th. We need to settle our accounts in preparation for the Annual Program Planning Conference the following week.

Tuesday, May 16th: Pack Advancement Ceremony/Scout Cabin Service Project (6:30-8:00 pm)

Please join us for an evening at the Scout Cabin! From 6:30 to 7:00 pm Scouts and their families will collect trash from the grounds surrounding the Scout Cabin and will sand the outdoor picnic table. Our Advancement Ceremony will take place from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Please invite the entire family as we honor our Scouts and Leaders for the work they completed throughout this program year. Our Cub Scouts will receive all rank badges, awards, and remaining belt loops at this outdoor ceremony. Each den will also advance to their new rank. All registered youth and adults in attendance should be in Class A uniform. Please remember to bring your child’s rank neckerchief with you as they will pass these down to the next den as a part of the ceremony. We are asking that each child sign their name on the long side of their neckerchief prior to the ceremony (example below). You can do this at home, but we will also have permanent markers available at the Scout Cabin if you forget. If your child has lost or not yet received their Pack neckerchief slide, this video shows two ways to tie it in a friendship knot. You should also bring chairs for your entire family.

Saturday, May 20th – Sunday, May 21st: Camp Shabbona Woods

We are extending registration for our final camping trip until Saturday, 5/13 at 5:00 pm! Feel free to join us for the night or just the day on Saturday. Details here.

Tuesday, May 23rd: Annual Program Planning Conference (6:00-9:00 pm)

All Pack parents and leaders are invited to attend this important meeting. We will share a meal together, outline plans for next year’s Pack meetings, schedule Pack events, approve the 2023-2024 budget, and set our fundraising goals. If you plan to attend, please let us know at pack24riverside@gmail.com. We still need parent volunteers to help prepare the meal before the meeting. Please sign up here.

Friday, May 26th: Flag Placement Service Project at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Stickney (6:30-7:30 pm)

In preparation for Memorial Day, our Cub Scouts will assist Mount Auburn Cemetery in placing American flags on the graves of local veterans. Please park in the back parking lot behind the cemetery office. We will meet outside the cemetery office for a brief orientation before we walk into the cemetery together. Please wear your Scout uniforms with good walking shoes and bring a printed copy of this waiver for each child.
