We are going to have an awesome pack meeting next Tuesday, October 8 at 7pm. We are returning to our usual meeting location of the Riverside Presbyterian Church Social Hall (116 Barrypoint).
Be sure to bring your scout’s popcorn order form, since all scouts that have sold at least one popcorn item will be given a new Pack 24 Class B Uniform. The Class B is a completely re-designed T-shirt, which your scout can wear on less formal, and more active, events such as hikes. A big thank you to Mr. Snyder for choosing this great design and his handling all the logisitcs for this project.
We also ask that you bring canned goods to support Riverside Presbyterian Church participation in the Food For Life program. This service provides groceries and hot meals to the homeless on Tuesday and Thursdays each week in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago. The donations are for a good cause, and there aren’t any restrictions on the type of canned foods that are accepted.
Our very special event for the evening will be a visit from Animals for Awareness, a non-profit rescue society for exotic pets. The good folks from this organization will be bringing some of the rescued animals for the scouts to see up close, and some of these can be petted or touched by our scouts. Some of the animals scheduled to visit us include:
- Alligator
- Domestic Skunk (don’t worry – they have treated him to remove the scent gland).
- Fennec Fox
- Kinkajou
- Hedgehog
- Snake
- Tortise
- Parrot
Some scouts may remember that Animals for Awareness visited us about two years ago, and many parents later told us that this was an especially memorable pack meeting. The Pack is making a cash donation to Animals for Awareness to help support their mission, and they also accept donations of food for the animals, and can use basically any canned fruit or vegetable to feed to the animals in their care. See you next Tuesday night!
