No Pack Meeting on Tuesday (Jan 12) Pinewood Derby is January 24 and other news…

Greetings Pack 24, hope everyone has been staying warm.

During January and February, we do not have our normally scheduled pack meetings on the second Tuesday night of each month.  We have two special pack events that also serve as the meetings for the month.

  • Pinewood Derby on January 24.  Car kits were distributed to scouts in December, contact your den leader if you haven’t received one.  We will have more details posted for the derby over the next few weeks, but scouts must check-in cars in the morning so racing can begin promptly at 1pm.  Full racing rules can be found here: Pinewood Derby Rules for Pack 24.  The best part of the pinewood is that it is FREE, and there are many prizes for fastest cars and best designs; categories include:
    • Funniest
    • Most Creative
    • Scout-Inspired
    • Fastest-Looking
    • Coolest
  • Blue & Gold Banquet on February 22.  This will be a late afternoon event at the Riverside Golf Club.  Any Webelos II that have earned the Arrow of Light award will be recognized and all of our Webelos II will cross-over to the ranks of Boy Scouts.  There will be entertainment for all scouts and of course, good food.

While we are at it, we should mention the council is planning a Polar Prowl during the morning of February 14.  This is of course Valentine’s Day as well, but Prowl is one of the largest cub scout events in the area since it brings everyone in the council together for sledding, hiking, games and more.  Scouts stay warm with a camp fire, hot chocolate and a soup medley.  Scouts also receive a patch!  There is no cost for scouts to attend this event, but parents must accompany them.  Click here to register by the deadline of January 31.

And speaking of January 31, there is a Cub Scout STEM Event at the Museum of Science & Industry on this date.  We are looking for a parent or two to coordinate a trip for our pack, so if you are interested, you can find out more here.  Then email us at pack24riverside@gmail.com if you can help.

Pathway to AdventureFinally, and this is your bonus for reading to the bottom of this message, the new Council has announced its new shoulder patch.  They are mailing a letter and certificate for a free patch to all scouts & leaders during January.

  • We are arranging to have a council representative attend our Pinewood Derby on January 24 to present all the options available for scout summer camps.  With the combination of the four councils into Pathway to Adventure, there are several more camps and programs available to us this year.
