Service Opportunities

We had a great time learning about Tae Kwon Do from Zach Burris at our pack meeting last night, and also heard about two upcoming service opportunities from Lisa Gaynor and Paul Cornelius.

Feed Our Community Day, Saturday, October 20 (Riverside Village Hall, 2nd Floor). You are invited to join with family, friends, and neighbors in creating tens of thousands of nutritious meals of hope for hungry children and their families in our communities. Partners in Hope  The Riverside/North Riverside Covenant of Churches is partnering with Outreach, an international 501(c)(3) non-profit, which has packaged and distributed over 210 million meals to hungry children and their families since 2004.Through its innovative mobile food packaging program, Outreach brings together hundreds, sometimes thousands, of volunteers – in church halls, school gyms, and conference centers – each prepared to donate time and money to package meals for the hungry. These are extraordinary spirit-enriching events of giving and caring in which any one of any age or background can participate and extend love to those in need.  Packed with Love Volunteers will be organized into small group assembly lines, preparing delicious, nutritious meals of pasta and cheese – all fortified with soy protein, nutrients, and vitamins – and bagged, labeled, weighed, and boxed employing safety and hygienic precautions. It’s a work of joy – with music, entertainment, and the opportunity to share an extraordinary experience with friends, family, and neighbors. Funds will be raised from community residents and businesses. Meals will be distributed to local food pantries.

There are four 90 minute shifts which begin at 9am, 11 am, 1pm and 3pm.  Click here to register & donate.  If you aren’t able to participate, Jenny Kolinski (a Pack 24 mom) is accepting donations of baked goods that will be shared with the many volunteers expected on the 20th. Lots of refreshments will be needed so every contribution is greatly appreciated. Baked goods could be dropped off with Jenny on her back porch (426 Kent Road) any time on Friday, Oct. 19th.
